In the quest for a stronger, fairer NYC, the Department of Small Business Services initiated a bespoke program to foster Black entrepreneurship citywide. In Summer 2019, they turned to us, the Viney Group, to bring to life the visual brand and campaign for this ambitious venture, BE NYC.

In order to get under the skin of this project, we sought to truly understand the aspirations of Black entrepreneurs. Focus groups, surveys, and deep-dive research were instrumental in crafting a brand that spoke to the core audience.

From crafting a distinctive logo to producing immersive videos featuring Black entrepreneurs in NYC, we left no stone unturned. The grand reveal at the Apollo Theater on September 10, 2019 was attended by over 400 enthusiastic participants.

We've since taken our partnership with SBS to the next level, acting as design and community engagement consultants. We've also compiled and designed the inaugural BE NYC report, a testament to our months of research, community dialogues, and the City's business DEI initiatives under BE NYC's banner.
