NYC Nonprofit Board Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Report (2018)
In a groundbreaking study led by NYC Service for the NYC Nonprofit Board Development Coalition, Viney Group spearheaded extensive focus group research to explore the nuanced dynamics of board diversity within New York City's vibrant nonprofit sector.
Over a series of eight compelling focus groups, conducted between August and October 2017, we delved into the hearts and minds of key stakeholders, comprising 17 nonprofit executive leaders and 20 current nonprofit board members across sectors like arts, education, social services, and professional affiliations. The study was organized into two clusters, each offering distinctive perspectives on the subject.
The insights gleaned from these sessions not only illuminated the complex landscape of board diversity but also painted a vivid picture of the unique experiences, successes, and struggles that characterize NYC's nonprofit institutions. Our research transcended mere data collection to reveal human stories, strategies, and the vital role diversity plays in shaping organizational culture and effectiveness.
